Why would one need a hoodie in a hot, sunny, tropical island? Welcoming my 4th hoodie. It's red. I have a red hoodie, yay!
Hoodie have a bad reputation all across the world, except in the true white north. Well, that's according to Wikipedia.
Hobo, anti-socials, urchin, inner city, ghetto, gangsters...
Hoodie is the new Jeans. Hoodie replaces jeans as a naughy-boy-uniform, or geeks' apparels. Jeans is getting popular now.
Jeans = rebels. In the past. Imagine James Dean cladded in denim, smoking, handsome bad boy. Some restaurants would deny a jeans wearer from entering their establishment. Now, it's a fashion must haves.

Just another day...
Today is the Prophet's Birthday. Well actually, a day after since it is sundown now.
I reciprocated my bestie's Joyeux Noel with Selamat Hari Natal. It's their Christmas.
While cooking a while ago, I was talking about leukaemia. Then I realized that tomorrow, my friend has been dead for 5 years already. Rest in peace Faizul.

Cheapskate drivers
In temperate countries, daylight running light is a standard. Most driver would utilize such device.
In a bright sunny tropical country, it's quite redundant. Why wasting petrol to light a well lit road? Cheapskate? Maybe. But it's acceptable.
However, such cheapskate attitude is dangerous when applied while driving in a gloomy, rainy weather.
It's quite dark this morning, even at 9 o'clock. Rainy season. It's monsoon. I'll usually turn off my fog lights, latest by half past 7. Safety first. That's what you'll be after surviving an accident and got afflicted with PTSD. In other words Defensive Driving.
However, in a place full of cheapskates, only 20% turned on their fog-light. Some luxury cars where DRL as a standard issue don't even bother to turn on theirs.
Yep, you can see the road even without DRL in the rain, but that doesn't mean other drivers can see you. It's dark, and there's water droplets on the windshield.
Worse, some don't even turn on their turn signal when turning.
Better play safe and turn on your fog-light or DRL when driving in the rain. Well, if you choose life over a few gallons of gas...

Cyberstalking aeroplanes in the sky.
Prior to 2014 aviation accident, not many knew that websites to monitor airplanes exists to public web user.
I'm talking about flightradar24, FlightStats and so on. My favourite site is flightradar24.
I've been 'plane-watching' using this site way before 9M-MRO went missing.
Once, my bestie was anxious about her boyfriend. She posted it on Facebook. Knowing the plight of being anxious, I tried to help her 'track' her beau. (No, I'm not a bounty-hunter)
I asked her some of the flight details. And then I typed CX, HKG and LAX to find the flight number. Next, I look for the airplane registration and search for the airplane using flightradar24.
The Boeing 777 is flying over the pacific near Japan.
"He'll land in about 6 hours" I told my bestie.
That's in 2013, when only aviation enthusiast know such website exists.
I am indeed an aviation geek.

Can I substitute carboy with pressure cooker?
I was wondering if I could make fruit wine, especially pineapple wine. I just like pineapples. Cheap, sweet and sour and fragrant. I like pineapple smell. Aloha? My bestie would imagine pineapple plantation if somebody mentioned Hawai'i.
Pineapple is a symbol of hospitality in the New England. So one can expect a pineapple to be in the dining table centrepiece.
A fermentation is best done in anaerobic condition. The yeast would convert sugar to ethanol in absence of oxygen. How ever fermenting fruit in airtight container is not a good idea. Carbon Dioxide, the byproduct of fermentation would accumulate in airtight containers and would exert much pressure for the container to contain.
So, instead of plastic carboys, I'm thinking of substituting carboys with pressure cooker. It's robust enough to contain pressure. Airtight enough to contain pressure. There's also a pressure release outlet where I can just attach plastic tubes to connect the pressure cooker to an airlock. An airlock keeps the oxygen away while releasing carbon dioxide. Hmmm...
I should have taken food industry course.
Pressure cooker comes into the equation when I were recalling the even leading to my PTSD. On that New Year Eve, I won a pressure cooker. (And the next day, I got into an accident... shit!)
Should I post a picture of my idea? A sketch maybe? Be right back
Should I elevate the airlock? Or is it unnecessary.

Sari-sari store and my aunt's cooking
Part 1
There's a sari-sari store in this little city.
This morning, my brother found a small store selling Filipino goods at the market. So he went there to browse some of the goods sold there. A box of polvoron caught his attention. Upon finding that store, he immediately told me his discovery. I was at the other end of the market at that time.
"Eh, there's a Filipino shop over there!" he said.
"Did you wish the Filipinos Maligayang Bagong Taon?" I said
Excited, we rushed to the store.
A purple jar. Ube Halaya. Tang powdered fruit drinks. Datu Puti vinegar. There's even a Kaldereta seasoning there.
My brother bought a box of polvoron and a packet of Tang mango juice. The cashier wished us "Happy New Year". I reciprocate their wish with "Maligayang Bagong Taon".
In the big city, I usually buy my Filipino foods in a specialty store. That store sell imported goods from the Philippines, Singapore, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

Part 2
Not more than an hour later, my aunt called my mother. She having an open house. More Filipino cuisine.
Christmas tree
In the kitchen, my aunt was cooking Pininyahang Manok. My aunt have to spell it out coz I kept on saying Pina ng Manok. My bad. It's chicken cooked with pineapple.
Sweet and sour sauce for Escabecheng Isda. It's Filipino's version of escabeche.
Vinegar, vinegar, vinegar...
It's a must. I told my aunt that we knew a sari-sari store selling Datu Puti. Apparently, that sari-sari store owner is my aunt's friend.
This is Kaldereta. Beef stew. Til this day, I couldn't differentiate between Kaldereta and Kare-kare. Well Kare-kare uses tripe and oxtail and yard-beans.
Dinuguan. Pork in blood stew. I couldn't tell you how it tasted like because I don't eat it.
Bistek. I ate a heap of this delicious beef.... and vinegar
Pininyahang manok. This recipe calls for pineapples, chicken, cheese, milk and bell paper. Yum!
Escabecheng isda. Sweet and sour fish.
Pancit. Filipino noodle. This version is made of egg noodle. There's even a version with glass noodle.
If you grow up with a Filipino aunt, vinegar is a must.
I'm not exaggerating. Be it Silver Swan or Datu Puti.
And here's a funny rendition of 12 days of Christmas by Mikey Bustos
Pusa and puso...
A few minutes and tomato puree later...
12 round fruits? Prutas
It might look simple, but believe me it's muy delicioso...
(I have the tendency to mix Tagalog with Spanish, earlier I said arroz when referring to rice. I have no idea what it's called in Tagalog)
My aunt's niece preparing espaghetti sauce (that's how she pronounce spaghetti) Notice how she mix sausages and minced beef. Similar to mine? Of course, it's my aunt who taught us how to cook spaghetti.
A few minutes and tomato puree later...
Sampaguita
Another sampaguita picture. They smelled like green tea, because that where green tea comes from.
Apparently, my aunt's niece and nephew are impressed by my Tagalog. Just basic Tagalog. Well most Filipinos would be impressed if you try to speak in Tagalog.
Filipinos are Asian French. It's not easy to speak Tagalog. It's grammar is different from the rest.
Maligayang bagong taon.
